When it comes to diesel trucks of today, nothing comes close to General Motors' powerful Duramax engine. In fact, nothing else can outperform it, including one of its closest competitors, the Cummins engine that Dodge RAM trucks typically equips.

Just how is that possible? Well, the Duramax is superior to the Cummins engine where it matters the most, according to a comparison between the latest models of the Chevrolet Silverado 3500 HD and RAM 3500.

Horsepower

In the Ram 3500, you are looking at a 6.7-liter Cummins turbo-diesel I6 engine with a horsepower of up to 385, plus a torque of 900 pound-feet. Sure, this is still considered quite powerful. However, it's not powerful enough to challenge the Duramax 6.6-liter turbo-diesel V8 onboard the Silverado 3500 HD.
