Chevy Bolt: Speed, Connectivity, and Energy Efficiency Combined

With the growing demand for alternative fuel vehicles, there’s no stopping the race for supremacy of the electric car market. Worsening environmental concerns and tightened government regulations continue to push car manufactures out of their comfort zones, giving life to technologies that were once stuff of science fiction. Now, electric cars are fast gaining popularity and slowly sucking the smell of gasoline out of people’s garages. It’s just a matter of time before at least half the cars in the country run on electricity.

One of the top contenders, General Motors has been producing the most sought-after electric vehicle models since day one of the race, each of which overhauls its long-range counterparts. The manufacturer did a great job of introducing this transport type as it created the first mass market for electric vehicles, beating even the technology’s forerunner Tesla. GM’s current flagship is the Chevrolet Bolt or Chevrolet Bolt EV, a front-motor, five-door all-electric subcompact hatchback that is perfect for both the individual and the family.

Battery and Drivetrain

The batteries of older electric vehicle models, including those of GM, have a quite low heat tolerance. Now, the Chevrolet Bolt is made to perform better and last longer with nickel-rich lithium-ion batteries. Their unique mixture allows the battery cells to run at high temperatures, which means the whole power source requires a simpler and cheaper liquid cooling system.

Worried about speed and endurance? The Chevrolet Bolt isn’t to be underestimated. With a 200 hp (150 kW) and 266 lb⋅ft (361 N⋅m) Interior Permanent Magnet electric motor, it can easily accelerate from 0–30 mph (0–48 km/h) in less than 3 seconds and twice that in less than 7 seconds. You can go up to 91 mph speed and still keep your CO2 emissions at an almost negligible amount.

Body and Chassis

Despite the upgrade in engine design, the Chevy Bolt still possesses GM’s crowed body and chassis. It may appear taller than the average hatchback but this car body’s center of gravity is still under 21 inches above the ground, making it quite easy to handle, especially during cornering. At first look, you may think that the car is too small for a family of 4, but don’t be deceived. Look inside and you’ll see a spacious interior thanks to the thin, comfy seats on both the front and back.

Safety and Connectivity

Chevy Bolt’s lavish exterior is paired with a fully-equipped interior. With five cameras—on the front, side mirrors, a 360 camera, and a regular back-up camera—you literally have visual of all your car’s surrounding. It also has a “lane keep assist" feature that keeps you on the proper lane, preventing you from going off road after making a sudden shift in direction. This feature monitors where the car is positioned relative to the lines on the road so that if the car is drifting it will steer the car back into its lane.

Infotainment is also a feature you shouldn’t miss in the Chevy Bolt. A 10.2-inch touch-screen display infotainment center and an 8-inch display in the driver's console serves as the control center for most functions inside the vehicle. The middle console also provides wireless charging. With two USB ports in the console, you can conveniently plug in your smartphone to connect to Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.

Electric cars like the Chevy Bolt are becoming not just a trend to follow but a necessity for the family, especially because regulations are becoming more and more stringent when it comes to emissions.
