The Chevrolet Silverado is perhaps one of the most iconic trucks on American roads. The new 2019 Silverado was recently unveiled at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, and it’s already stirring up a lot of excitement among car aficionados months away from its official release.
Chevrolet made sure to retain many of the beloved features of the Silverado’s previous iteration, but they also made sure that the 2019 model is every bit the next-generation truck it is touted out to be. Lightweight Build
The new Silverado’s look isn’t much of a departure from last year’s model, but there are some notable cosmetic changes you’ll notice at first glance. The exterior has sharper, more defined lines, squinter headlights and a the Chevrolet moniker stamped onto the tailgate—a callback from the 1990s version of the Silverado. However, that isn’t to say that the 2019 version didn’t undergo radical changes from the inside. It might not be obvious, but the new Silverado is built with weight-saving materials and seven types of lightweight steel. This resulted in a decrease of 450 pounds from the truck’s overall mass and a slightly larger truck. It is equipped with a safety cage, a higher grade of roll-former steer for the bed, 80 percent high-strength steel for the frame, and door, hood and panels constructed with aluminum.
